Enhancing your Cup noodles:
Extra Veggies to Elevate your Ramen
Most instant ramen comes with its own little packet of dried veggies in a tiny, often pathetic looking packet. You want to upgrade your cup noodles and one of the best ways to do this is with veggies! Also, if you’re a student, a great option is getting frozen vegetables – they’re cheaper and will last longer. You can find mixed frozen vegetables like carrots, peas, and broccoli and fry those up with your instant ramen to get noodles that instantly taste better!
You can also add fresh vegetables like chopped scallion, onions, and cabbage. Add some soy sauce and fry it all together and you have ramen that tastes like you ordered some fancy takeout lol. Kimchi tastes AMAZING in cup noodles, but it may be harder to get your hands on in some places, so opt for soy sauce as a fool proof way of awesome ramen.
Sauces & Spices
I already mentioned soy sauce as an easy way to make any ramen feel fancier but there’s more where that came from! Once you pour the hot water into your cup noodles and they’re cooked, pour the cup noodles into a frying pan and add Sriracha sauce. This will add some heat to your noodles, heat that will turn into amazing flavor and almost sweetness when it mixes with the noodle broth from the flavoring packets of ramen. Frying the noodles will also make the sauce stick to the noodles and make them extra yummy! If you want to opt for spices, try garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, and some chili flakes!
If you’ve ever had ramen in a restaurant, you’ll know that it almost always comes with a boiled or fried egg. Eggs are a perfect, inexpensive and easy way to elevate your instant ramen because: 1) everyone has an egg at home and 2) it takes practically no time at all. Frying an egg is faster than boiling so I usually stick to that. Try to make your yolk a little runny – when it mixes with the noodles they’ll get gooey and it’s delicious! Plus, adding an egg on top of any dish automatically makes one feel fancier.
Cheese is perfect if you like your noodles wetter, because of the yummy flavored packet broth, but want to add a little thickness. Adding cheese to your ramen will enhance its flavors and give the noodles more texture. It also tastes delicious and is an easy, quick, and affordable way to elevate your cup noodles. You don’t need fancy cheeses either – any cheese will work! In fact, I regularly put Kraft singles on my ramen and it tastes great! Just put the cheese on top of the noodles, mix it around until the cheese melts, and VOILA! you’ve got fancier cup noodles.
Just Fry it!
Sometimes, even if you don’t feel like adding anything to your noodles once they’ve been boiled in the cup they come in, just frying them on a pan makes them taste yummier and feels fancier haha. All you do is let the cup noodles cook normally and then pour it into a frying pan and fry it on low to medium heat until some of the broth is soaked into the noodles. The noodles will also become denser and taste heartier.
