How to Grow Hair Fast (Proven Hair Growth Tips)

1. Why Oiling Your Scalp Is a Hair Care Must

I grew up with my mom putting oil in my hair once a week. So when I started to see my hair loss, the first thing I did was make a concoction of my own oils.

If you are looking for ways on how to grow hair fast and reduce hair loss, then you need to start putting oils in your hair. Not only is oiling your scalp great for making your hair grow faster, it’s also excellent for hair loss and promoting healthy hair.

Oiling my scalp and hair has probably been the best thing I have done for my hair, and you need to try it if you want greater hair health and longer locks.

Want to know how to grow hair fast? Hair oil will your new best friend!

What Oils Should You Use for Fast Hair Growth?

Oiling your scalp and hair is one of the best natural hair growth tips that made the biggest difference to growing my hair 5 inches in just 2 months. If you want healthier hair fast, then this tip is an absolute must.

If you want your hair to grow quickly, I would recommend these hair growth oils (these are the oils I used to grow almost five inches of hair in just 2 months!):

How to Put Oil in Your Hair

Oils are great for your hair, but if you want to maximize the effects of them, make sure you’re putting them the right way.

  1. Put all the oils listed above or the oils you choose to use in a bottle and shake well to make sure all the oils get mixed together.
  2. The two most important places to put oil in your hair is the scalp and the ends of your hair. But if there is one part of your hair you MUST be oiling, it’s your scalp.
  3. For oiling your scalp, make sure to massage the oil into your scalp, in circular motions for at least 5 minutes. Massaging your scalp has been shown to promote hair growth and make the hair that does grow, to grow in thicker.
  4. For the ends of your hair, rub the oil in the palms of your hand and coat the ends of your hair thoroughly.
  5. You can keep this oil mixture in your hair for as long as you like, just make sure it’s at least 30 minutes.
  6. When you’re washing the hair growth oils out, make sure to shampoo at least twice because otherwise residual oil will stay in the hair and make your hair very greasy. If your hair tends to get greasy very quickly, then here’s a guide on how to stop your hair from getting greasy. It’s how I was able to go form washing my hair every other day to once a week.

Long story short: if you want to know how to grow out your hair fast, then oiling your scalp and hair is an absolute must. It’s what made the biggest difference in my hair growth journey and once you find the right hair oils for you, your hair will be unstoppable!

2. Take Care of Your Scalp

Hair health starts from your scalp, so if you’re not taking care of it, there’s no way your hair will grow faster.

Scalp care is so, SO underrated! If you want to know how to grow your hair fast at home and naturally, then you need to make sure you are taking care of your scalp.

Your hair grows out of the scalp, so if you don’t give it the love you give the rest of your hair, then your hair won’t be able to grow as healthy as it could.

Keeping your scalp hydrated and clean will allow you to have less hair loss and more hair growth that won’t be interrupted by dirty and clogged hair follicles.

How to Take Care of Your Scalp for Faster Hair Growth

Here are the best things you can do for your scalp:

  1. Massage your scalp. I already talked about how you should massage oils into your massage but you should be massaging your scalp in general, too. Massaging your hair is important because it will circulate blood and promote hair growth. Try to massage it every night for a couple of minutes for maximum hair growth.
  2. Exfoliate your scalp. Exfoliating your scalp is so important and I can’t believe so many people don’t know about it! This will boost cell turnover and promote hair growth and is critical for your hair if you’re looking for how to grow hair fast. Not only does it cleanse your scalp, it also removes any dirt from the hair shaft.

If you want to know how to grow hair faster and thicker naturally, then focus on scalp care for rapid results.

The Best Scalp Exfoliators for Faster Hair Growth

There are two main ways to exfoliate your scalp. You can use scrubs or an exfoliating brush. Here are a few options for both!

Scalp Scrubs

I used to have a very dry flaky scalp right after washing my hair but after just a day or two it would become extremely greasy and felt like it had clumps of oils and product everywhere.

I’ve tried dozens and dozens of scalp scrubs, and here a few of my favorite that I always end up going back to because they’re just that great:

Scalp Scrubber

I use a scalp scrubber every time I wash my hair and I LOVE it! Using a handheld scalp massager is great for circulating blood and promoting hair growth but also for distributing hair products effectively, while also gently cleansing your scalp at the same time.

I have noticed a big difference in my hair growth since I started scalp scrubbing and you should definitely start it, too, if you’re wondering how to grow hair fast for longer, healthier hair.

3. Dry-Shampoo: Hair Growth Tip You Need to Start Using

If you keep asking “how to grow hair fast?”, then here’s a tip you might not have realized is extremely effective and simple for hair growth!

Washing your hair too often can strip the scalp and its roots of moisture and the natural oils it needs to grow healthily and normally. This can halt hair growth and may be one of the reasons you aren’t seeing hair growth even though you might be using all the other tips in this article.

That’s where dry shampoo comes in.

If your hair gets greasy the day after you wash your hair or is naturally a lot more prone to getting oily, then you should use a dry shampoo so that you don’t wash your hair unnecessarily and strip it of the oils its need to grow long and healthy.

Plus, dry shampoo adds an extra lift to your hair so it looks a lot more voluminous and keeps your hair styles lasting longer. It also adds more texture to the hair. If you want great texture and volume in your hair, you will love this article on the best texturizing sprays for beachy waves.

If you aren’t using a dry shampoo, you should definitely start: you won’t have to wash your hair as often and will allow your hair to stay nourished and promote hair growth.

So if you want to know how to grow hair fast, then using dry shampoo is very important because it’ll make sure your scalp is hydrated and producing enough oils to allow healthier, longer hair to grow in.

PS: make sure to brush the dry shampoo out at night so that it doesn’t clog your hair follicles – if that does happen it can actually stop your hair from growing.

What are the Best Dry Shampoos?

I am constantly trying out new dry shampoos to see what works best for my hair and what doesn’t. These are my favorite dry shampoos and if you have naturally oily hair and scalp, like me, you will love these!

4. Use a Heat Protectant Spray if You Want Your Hair to Grow!

If you’re using heat on your hair – even just to blow dry your hair – then you NEED to be using a heat protectant spray if you’re looking for ways on how to grow hair fast and easily.

Wondering how to grow hair fast? Then heat styling is a HUGE issue. No matter how little heat you use on your hair, it is going to affect how fast your hair grows because you’re essentially burning the length of your hair (and maybe even the hair follicles if you get very close to the root). That’s why using a heat protectant is ESSENTIAL if you want rapid hair growth and healthier hair.

I can’t believe there are so many people that skip this step when you could be reducing so much of the damage your hair has from heat just by using a simple heat protecting spray.

Heat protectant works by controlling the damage to your hair done by using heat products like hair dryers, straighteners, and curlers.

If you want know how to grow hair fast, you need to be using a heat protectant spray – it’s a must have step in your hair care routine if you’re using any heat styling.

How to Use Heat Protectant on Your Hair?

Most people just spray their hair all over with heat protectant spray and think this is enough. They are very wrong.

What happens to the hair at the back? Or the hair very close to your neck that didn’t get the spray?

The best way to ensure that all your hair is coated in heat protectant spray is by sectioning the hair into 2-3 inch pieces, spray each section from top to bottom with the spray bottle about 8-9 inches away from the hair, and repeating until all the cover has been covered.

This is a pretty tedious process, but it’s the way to make sure you’re covering all your hair so your hair can grow as long and healthy as possible!

So if you want to know how to grow hair fast, then this hair growth tip is one you can’t skip.

What are the Best Heat Protectant Sprays?

I’ve tried A LOT of heat protectants because of how much heat I used to put on my hair and here are two of my favorites:

5. Derma Roll Your Scalp

Now this is a controversial one, which is why I would recommend consulting your doctor before you do this.

A derma roller is a small hand-held tool that has hundreds of little needles that you can roll on the skin to create small punctures.

There has been a lot of scientific research showing that derma rolling helps with hair growth and hair density.

Derma rolling has shown to be so amazing for hair growth that a lot of dermatologists and hair experts swear by this technique.

When I first started asking myself “how to grow hair fast?” I was trying all sorts of hair growth tips and saw a lot of YouTube videos raving about their experience with derma rolling, and I swear it works!

I started off doing it every two weeks on hair wash days, and saw a noticeable difference in hair growth and density after about 3 months. Eventually, after my scalp got used to the derma rolling, I started doing it every week or sometimes every few days, and that’s when my hair growth started to get very fast and even bald patches (especially in traditional female balding areas) started to disappear.

Derma rolling your scalp is such an underrated but highly effective hair growth tip you need to try if you want to know how to grow hair fast.

How to Derma Roll Your Scalp

If your doctor says that it’s okay for you derma roll your scalp, then here’s how I suggest you do it!

  1. Make sure your derma roller is clean and has been sanitized. You will be putting this tool on your scalp and it will create small punctures, so you want to make sure it is clean and hygienic.
  2. For beginners, I would recommend starting off with a 0.5 mm derma roller. The needles are much smaller in this size of a roller and will work much better for someone just starting derma rolling.
  3. When derma rolling your hair, you should roll in four directions: vertically, horizontally, and then diagonally in both left and right directions. Roll 10 times in each direction.
  4. Don’t use very big sections of hair to derma roll because your hair will get caught in the roller and it might rip your hair. Be gentle and use short, swift motions.
  5. After you derma roll your scalp, you should put on your favorite hair oil or serum and let it sit for a bit (30 minutes to one hour) before washing your hair. Use the hair oil mixture mentioned in the first section – that’s what I do and you already know much my hair grew!
  6. After you derma roll, make sure to clean your roller. Soak it in acetone/rubbing alcohol for a few minutes and make sure it’s been thoroughly sanitized.

Best Derma Rollers for Your Scalp

Here are some derma rollers to get you started with derma rolling your scalp! These are all 0.25 – 0.5 mm needle derma rollers, which is what beginners should use.

Make sure to start off very gentle and do it every few weeks so your scalp can adjust!

6. Combining Derma Rolling and Hair Oils

Want to know how to grow hair fast at home? Then this tip is a MUST!

This is something I have just recently started implementing into my hair routine and it has made a huge difference in how quickly my hair has been growing.

While I still derma roll and oil my scalp separately as well, I now combine the two steps for maximum hair growth! After regularly using this trick for about 1 month, I noticed a big difference in hair thickness – bald patches from my side part started to disappear and the roots around my part were fuller. This is one of the best hair growth tips for women AND men that will make a huge difference to the quantity and quality of your hair. This tip is great if you’re suffering from hair loss, too!

Here’s what I do: the days that I know I am going to wash my hair, I will derma roll my scalp – paying extra attention to the parts of my head where my hair is finer and thinner, like where my side part is – and then once I finish derma rolling, I will put the oils I would use on my scalp in the areas I just derma rolled.

I have tried this with castor oil and seen a huge difference in how quickly my hair has been growing.

You should experiment with different oils to see what works best for you, or you might skip this tip altogether if your scalp is very sensitive.

7. Brush Your Hair

I know this one sounds obvious, but hear me out! Brushing your hair is very important for increasing circulation (which promotes hair growth) and distributing the oils in your hair from your scalp to the rest of your hair.

This is extra important if you use a lot of hair products. When you use hair products like creams, sprays, and dry shampoo, it can build up in your hair, especially in your scalp, and clog your hair follicles. This will make growing your hair longer a lot more difficult.

If you want to know how to grow hair fast, then not brushing your hair isn’t an option because of how much dirt and product can build up in your hair, getting in the way of any potential hair growth and even causing hair loss.

So every night just brush your hair for a few minutes: it will redistribute your hair oils and any built-up product and help your hair grow.

If you want to know how to grow hair fast, this is such a helpful and simple trick that will make a world of a difference!

8. Take Your Vitamins

Wondering how to grow hair fast? Then before trying to find miracle products, look inside and see what might be going on within your body that could result in hair loss and stagnant hair growth.

A lot of the reason our hair may be unhealthy or not growing as long as we think it should be is because we aren’t getting all our vitamins.

Iron deficiencies are very common in women and this may be affecting how long your hair grows. Many of the every day vitamins we need, but aren’t getting enough of, will be reflected in our hair.

When you’re lacking nutrients and not getting enough of your essential vitamins, your hair is the first thing on your body to suffer because your internal system gives priority to the rest of your body to properly function, so your hair ends up suffering first and the most.

If your hair is brittle, not growing, and overall not very healthy, you should consult a medical professional because you may not be getting the proper vitamins you need.

Best Vitamins for Hair Growth

Here are some of the best hair growth vitamins and hair growth supplements that you should try if you’re looking for ways on how to grow hair fast. Make sure to consult a doctor!

  • B-Vitamins (Biotin is the most popular one!): If you are taking Biotin, you should be very careful because in large quantities it can cause acne.

9. Hair Trims for Faster Hair Growth

Getting regular trims is essential for hair growth. I always notice a lot of hair growth after I cut my hair. And I know a lot of people hate this tip because they think they will have to cut inches off their hair when they’re trying to get inches on their hair, but this isn’t true.

Hair trims are essentials for hair growth because it removes dead, split ends that slow down hair growth. By cutting these off, the ends of your hair are fresher, healthier, and ready to grow long and healthy. That’s why right after you get a hair cut you can usually notice rapid hair growth for a few weeks afterwards.

If you’re wondering how to grow hair faster in a month or even a week, then maintaining regular hair trims is key!

How Much Hair Should You Trim for Hair Growth

You only need to trim your hair to see fast hair growth. So don’t cut off an inch, but maybe just a centimeter or even less if your hair is already healthy.

I’ve been making sure to keep my hair very healthy, so when I trim my hair I only cut the tiniest amount – probably even less than a centimeter.

But if your hair is very unhealthy and has a lot of split ends, then you will probably need to cut off more. If you have split ends, make sure to cut off all the split ends!

How Often Should You Trim Your Hair for Growth?

This is not a very specific answer, but you know your hair and can usually feel when you need to. I have been cutting my hair a very little amount every two weeks or so, and in two months I ended up gaining 5 inches of hair.

If you want a general answer, I would say about three months on the minimum. Try to trim your hair more often, though, especially if you use a lot of heat or have split ends.

10. How Blowdrying Your Hair is Killing It

Wondering how to grow hair fast? Then be extremely mindful of the amount of heat you’re putting on your hair.

I have seen a lot of articles and beauty influencers talk about all the tips and tricks they have to grow your hair fast, but no one seems to talk about how intense blow drying is on your hair – which is crazy to me, because I think it’s a very important tip.

Most people say to stop using heat if you want to grow your hair quickly but honestly, isn’t that a bit unrealistic?

If you are using heat on your hair, the one heat product would I definitely tell you to stay away from is your hairdryer.

If you just dry your hair with the hairdryer, then it’s fine but if you blowdry your hair after you wash your hair, then you are doing a lot of damage to your hair.

How Does Blowdrying Hurt Your Hair

When you blowdry your hair, you’re tugging on your hair with the brush. This can lead to a lot of breakage – breakage that will break your hair before it even gets the chance to grow.

Imagine it this way: when you blowdry your hair you wrap the hair around the brush and pull, right? When your pull your hair you’re using a lot more force than you realize.

Then on top of that force, you have the heat of the hair dryer also. This can break your hair and it may be one of the reasons you also have a lot of fly-aways. This is especially harmful to your hair since most people blowdry wet hair and wet hair is a lot more vulnerable to breakage than dry hair.

So if you want to know how to grow hair fast, then I would highly recommend skipping the blowdrying.

Instead, air dry your hair or if you do use a hairdryer, don’t blow-dry your hair with a brush. This way you can still dry your hair quickly without tugging and pulling your hair.

Of course, the ideal solution would be not using any heat at all on your hair but that’s a bit unrealistic for a lot of people so try to limit heat styling

Why Isn’t My Hair Growing?

Here are common causes of why your hair isn’t growing:

  • Age
  • Genetics
  • Hormones
  • Stress
  • Product Buildup
  • Using harsh products that strip your hair
  • Vitamin deficiencies
  • You’re not taking care of your scalp
  • Split ends due to heat styling and not getting regular trims

But don’t worry! Following the tips above will help your hair grow faster, prevent hair loss, and lead to healthier, fuller looking hair.

If after 6 months of consisting using these tips you don’t see a difference in your hair health and growth, consult a dermatologist or medical professional.

I hope this article helps you grow your hair quickly and answers your question on how to grow hair fast. These tips on how to grow hair fast will promote hair growth, prevent hair loss and help you get the hair of your dreams! 1. Hi! I eye-balled the amounts of each oil I put in. For example, what I used to do what was order all the ingredients at once, put them all in a large bottle, shake the bottle well, and use the oil like that, without much concentration on the ratios of each oil. If you don’t want to follow that method, then I would recommend about a teaspoon of each oil for each application! I hope that helps 🙂
