How to Get Better Skin FAST

1. Can Touching Your Face Cause Acne?

YES! When you touch your face, the oils from your hand transfer to your face and this can trigger acne and cause breakouts. Not touching your face is an easy tip to avoid acne but is so underrated.

This is so, SO important if you want to get better skin that is clearer and has less acne. When you touch your face, you transfer the oils and dirt from your fingers to your face, and this can cause acne.

I know, I know, sometimes it’s just so tempting to touch your face, but you need to not do this if you want to get better skin fast.

If you are going to touch your face, make sure your hands are clean – but just try not to do it altogether.

2. Silk Pillowcase Benefits for Acne: Better Skin Instantly!

If you want better skin, get yourself a silk pillowcase! Your skin will crease less and it won’t absorb as much of the skincare products off your face as most regular pillowcases do.

Silk pillowcases are also really great for your hair (especially if you have frizzy hair!) so its a two in one deal – better skin and hair.

3. Sleep on Your Back and Not on Your Face

This tip is so important if you want less wrinkles and better skin.

When you sleep on your face, you’re basically squishing your face against the pillow, and this can cause wrinkles and it’s actually one of the biggest reasons your face may be asymmetrical.

If you want to get better skin, then you should sleep on your back. This way, your face isn’t squished on the pillow for an extended period of time and this will lead to less wrinkles, which is super important if you want better skin fast.

If you have a hard time sleeping on your back, which most of us do, then try using this special pillow that prevents your face from being pushed against the pillow when you sleep. It basically forces you to sleep on your back and not on your face, which is great in the long-run for better skin.

4. Stop Using Unnecessary Products

I’m sure you have heard of the 20-step Korean skincare routines that have become so popular the last few years. Personally, I HATE this trend.

When you use so many products, especially when you don’t need them, you’re just asking for trouble. Using a lot of products on your skin isn’t a good thing if you don’t need them.

The only things that you absolutely NEED in your skincare routine are: a good sunscreen (SPF is a MUST), cleanser, and moisturizer. Everything, though it might be helpful, isn’t necessary.

Of course, this doesn’t mean you should completely stop using all your skincare products other than SPF, cleanser, and moisturizer. It just means that you shouldn’t just keep piling on products cause they sound fancy or smell good or whatever else it may be.

I feel like one of the reasons my skin got so bad last year was because I was just overdoing it with the skincare products I was using, and too much of a good thing can be bad, too.

This is one of the reasons that I don’t like Drunk Elephant products – they have a lot of great ingredients but there are just so many of them that even if those ingredients are great for your skin, just the large amount of them would make my skin react and break out.

Keep your routine simple – your skin will thank you for it!

5. SPF: The Secret to Not Aging

I mentioned this in the last tip, too, but using SPF and sunscreen is non-negotiable. If you want great skin, then you need to start using SPF.

This picture is what really made me realize just how important SPF was for my skin.

The left is the side of the truckers face that wasn’t exposed to the sun all the years he drove on the road, whereas the right side is the side that was constantly facing the sun. You can clearly see how much saggier and more aged the right side of the face is, and that is exactly what happens when you don’t use SPF.

So, use your SPF and apply it every day and try to reapply it every few hours, which can be tough if you have a full face of makeup on but you can try powder SPF’s that you can just brush over your face. We’ll cover those now.

Best Sunscreens to Reapply During the Day

During the day retouching your sunscreen can be a huge headache, especially if you’re using face lotion type of sunscreens. They move your makeup around and are just so inconvenient.

To get around this, I would recommend using a powder SPF that you can just dust over your face every few hours and that way you get the sun protection you need without ruining your makeup!

6. DIY Skin Care: Not Worth the Skin Damage

Oh gosh, this one really gets me riled up lol! STOP doing DIY, at home skin treatments that you think are a cure-all and will give you clear, glowing skin because they most likely won’t.

I used to watch beauty gurus on YouTube and they would always talk about the DIY skin treatments they were doing and so I did them, too, because I thought that would give me beautiful glowing skin they had. But that’s not what happened.

I destroyed my skin barrier doing these DIY treatments and it took years for my skin to fully heal, so if you want to get better skin, then skip the DIY’s and buy trusted, scientifically-tested products.

Here’s an article on the most DIY skin treatments you definitely should NOT be doing.

7. Why Is Moisturizer Important? A Skincare Must-Do

I mentioned moisturizer in the things you definitely need to have in your skincare routine, but I don’t think I emphasized just how important it is and how much it will transform your skin.

Moisturizer is a must (yes, even if you have oily skin!) and it will make your skin look plumper and more youthful. Moisturizer also just gives you the most beautiful glow and you will look more hydrated and healthy with a good moisturizer.

If you have oily skin, don’t skip the moisturizer because if you don’t give your skin the right amount of moisture it needs, your skin will produce more oils and become even oilier. And if you have dry skin, then pack that moisturizer on!

8. Shave Your Face for Smoother Skin

I know, I know, this sounds a bit crazy. But trust me, this will change the appearance of your skin and make your makeup look 10x better!

Shaving your face with a face razor basically just get rids of all your peach fuzz and makes your skin look smoother and more even. When I tell you I was amazed by the change in the appearance of my skin from shaving my face, I mean it lol.

After I shaved my face, my complexion looked a lot brighter and more even, which made my skin look so much better.

If you aren’t already shaving your face, you HAVE to!

How to Shave Your Face

If you’re wondering how to shave your face, it’s super super easy. All you need to do is first make sure your skin is clean and dry. Now, it’s up to you if you want to keep your skin dry or add a face oil or even some aloe vera gel to help with the razor gliding more easily on the skin.

Personally, I quite like shaving my face when it’s dry, but a lot of people prefer it a bit slippery. If you try shaving and you find that you’re tugging on your skin a bit too much, then definitely switch over to using a face oil or some aloe vera because you do NOT want to be tugging unnecessarily on your skin.

For the actual shaving, shave downwards the way the hair is going and go in short, quick spurts. This way you’ll make sure you’re removing all the hair and your skin will be less irritated if you shave towards the hair growth. You know how when you wax you pull the strip against the way the hair is growing, you the opposite for face shaving.

9. Drink Water

I know that everyone talks about this for if you want better skin but they don’t actually get their facts straight.

Firstly, if you think drinking water is the miracle-cure for your acne, you’re wrong. That is because the water you drink leaves your system way too quickly to actually do anything for your skin. BUT, you should be drinking a lot of water anyway so your skin may improve after you drink a lot of water but it’s not because of the water itself but because your entire body is healthier with more water so your skin gets better because your body is functioning better.

I don’t really see a difference in acne when I drink a lot of water, but I do see significant changes in the texture of my skin and the evenness. The biggest difference I saw was in my under-eye circles after I started drinking more water. My under-eyes bags became a lot lighter and my skin in general looks more even and healthy.

So drinking a lot of water might not improve your acne but it will make your skin better fast.

10. Double Cleanse: Properly Removing Your Makeup

Double cleansing is so, SO important if you wear makeup. Sleeping with makeup on is probably one of the worst things you could be doing for your skin, so every night you need to make sure you remove all your makeup.

Even if you come home at 4am and you’re so tired and exhausted, you can skip your entire skincare routine EXCEPT removing your makeup. In my opinion, this step in non-negotiable. You have to do it.

Double cleansing is super important because if you wear makeup, especially a lot of it, then cleansing your face once is most likely not going to do the trick.

Imagine it this way: you have a full face of makeup on and all you do to take it off is use some micellar water on a cotton pad. I can guarantee you that that cotton pad is not going to remove all your makeup. After this you need to cleanse your skin again, either with a cleanser or a balm or anything to remove ALL your makeup.

You could be using the most luxurious skincare products with the fanciest tools but if you aren’t removing all your makeup, it’s all useless.

So if you wear makeup, then double cleansing is a must if you want better skin fast!
